Chest pain is often an indicator of heart complications, meaning you need a specialist consultation to diagnose and treat any issues. At our rapid-access chest pain clinic, you can receive the medical attention you deserve at short notice.
Our experienced cardiologists use data and state-of-the-art tests to address any problems. When you book a consultation, we conduct a general health check, learn about your medical history and any family heart conditions, and then break down your symptoms to diagnose your issue. Then, we provide an effective treatment plan. We will likely perform an ECG or echocardiology test to investigate your heart’s activity.
At our excellent chest pain clinic, we offer a range of treatments to diagnose issues. This helps us identify your problem and implement an effective treatment plan. We may even use multiple to gather a broad range of data.
An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a test that monitors your heart's rhythm and electrical activity. We attach comfortable sensors to your body and connect them to a monitor. We can perform the test for five to ten minutes or over 24 hours whilst you carry out your daily activities.
While a traditional ECG monitors your heart during regular activities, an exercise ECG evaluates any dramatic or unusual changes whilst you are active. We will attach the sensors and then ask you to complete an exercise session to monitor how your heart performs.
In some cases, we may X-ray your chest to diagnose heart conditions or issues. The X-ray will produce pictures of your lungs, heart, blood vessels and airways to reveal faults such as collapsed lungs or pneumonia.
When we conduct a blood test, we look for proteins and other substances in the blood that indicate damage to the heart.
An echocardiogram is an ultrasound test to monitor your heart and surrounding blood vessels. It can detect damage from a heart attack, congenital heart disease, cardiomyopathy, endocarditis or heart failure.
Our rapid chest pain clinic is designed to help individuals with chest pain. Those with palpitations or arrhythmia, if not accompanying chest pain, should see our general cardiology services. If you are experiencing respiratory problems alongside your chest pain, you may want to arrange a private respiratory consultation.
If you have unstable angina, acute myocardial infarction or cardiac arrest, we advise you to visit the emergency department at your nearest hospital.
When you come to see one of our consultants at our rapid chest pain clinic in Birmingham, you will need to bring your medical records and details of any family heart conditions. You should also bring any medication you are currently taking to help our consultants quickly paint a picture of your health and create a comprehensive treatment plan.
At the appointment, you may complete an exercise ECG, so please wear loose clothing and comfortable shoes to move and walk in.
At your consultation, one of our nurses will perform a general health check such as blood pressure, height, weight and BMI. Then the cardiology consultant will discuss your medical records and symptoms to understand your problem. We will likely complete an ECG to collect data on your heart’s activity.
The information it gathers may be enough to diagnose a problem. However, we like to be thorough and collect as much data as possible so we may perform further tests.
Finally, our cardiologists will suggest the best course of action. For example, we may recommend lifestyle changes or prescribe medication. In rare cases, we may advise further tests such as angiograms to show the vessels to your heart and surgical interventions to protect you.
We are proud to have two cardiologists offering our patients expertise and experience when confronting chest pain.
