Child Health Checks in Birmingham

Home > Child Health Checks in Birmingham

We believe parents should be able to monitor their child’s health annually and have valuable time to address their concerns with an experienced paediatric consultant. While NHS checkups stop around 2 to 2-and-a-half years old, your child’s health can be assessed right through until their 18th birthday.

Our Child Health Checks

Your child’s check-up will include the following:

  1. A 45-minute appointments with one of our Paediatric Consultants
  2. Full medical history and examination of your child, checking vaccination status up to date
  3. Review of your child’s developmental milestones
  4. The opportunity to discuss any developmental or behavioural concerns – if need be, we can make a referral to our neurodevelopmental consultants
  5. Height and weight will be plotted on growth charts
  6. Observations of your child’s blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation
  7. Urine dipstick examination to check for glucose, blood, and protein

There will also be the opportunity to discuss any additional bloods or scans with our paediatricians and, if appropriate, they will organise these at Midland Health or externally. It is worth noting, additional fees will apply for these and they will be discussed with you during your child’s appointment.

During your child’s health check-up, our paediatricians can also help advise and ensure your child’s vaccinations are up-to-date. With your consent, they can help coordinate the administration of vital vaccines to help get your child’s immune system boosted and strong.

Yes, it is possible to access private healthcare services for your child, which can provide specialised care and quicker access to medical attention if needed.

Health visitor assessments are not always mandatory, but they are recommended in many countries to monitor a child's growth and development, offer support to parents, and ensure the child's well-being.
