A glucose tolerance test is used to test for Type 2 Diabetes, or higher than average glucose levels during pregnancy. The test is taken after an 8-10 hour fast. A glucose drink is consumed, and blood and urine samples taken every 30 minutes for 2 hours. Elevated glucose indicates low levels of insulin; the hormone naturally produced by the body to break down sugar.
