Our Fractional Laser Resurfacing treatment is a minimally invasive treatment carried out by our expert clinicians designed to address a range of facial skin concerns. These concerns can be: acne scarring post-treatment with our dermatologists, fine lines and wrinkles, damage caused by the sun, overall skin tone and general rejuvenation!

How We Can Help

Skin concerns can run deeper than appearance. When acne scarring, wrinkles, or uneven texture persist despite other treatments, it's natural to want a clinical solution that works at a deeper level.

Our fractional laser resurfacing treatment may be appropriate for patients whose concerns include:

  • Acne scarring, including scarring following dermatology care
  • Fine lines and mild static wrinkles on the face, neck, or hands
  • Sun-damaged skin or uneven skin tone
  • Skin texture concerns, including congestion and rough surface irregularities
  • Hypertrophic or atrophic scarring
  • Skin dyschromia (uneven pigmentation)
  • General skin renewal and rejuvenation

Each assessment begins with a consultation. Your clinician will tailor your treatment plan to your individual skin type, goals, and circumstances. The examples above are indicative, but if you have any other concerns about the surface texture of your skin, contact our team and ask if our laser treatments can help.

Our Fractional Resurfacing Treatment

Fractional laser resurfacing may be a suitable option if you are an adult with one or more of the skin concerns and you are looking for a clinically-led approach. It may be particularly worth considering if:

  • You have completed dermatology treatment for acne and are left with residual scarring
  • Other skincare approaches have not produced the improvement you were hoping for
  • You are looking for a structured course of treatment with clinical oversight
  • You want to understand your options clearly before committing

Your clinician will assess whether this treatment is appropriate for you during your consultation. We’ll take into account your skin type, medical history, and personal goals before recommending any course of treatment.

How Does The Treatment Work?

Fractional Resurfacing is based on a principle of selective photo thermolysis. This process initiates a natural healing of the area through ‘controlled trauma’.

At first the laser ablates microscopic holes in the top layer of the skin (the epidermis). Producing inflammation heats in the skin. This heat then spreads into the dermis and stimulates our fibroblasts, initiating a wound healing response. As the skin heals itself from the wound; tissue and collagen stimulation will occur, improving the skins texture.

What a Course of Treatment May Involve

The treatment is best described as a deep chemical peel. For many skin concerns, our clinicians may recommend a course of five to six sessions, typically spaced four to six weeks apart. For deeper concerns such as atrophic acne scars or stretch marks, additional sessions may be discussed following your initial assessment.

During Your Appointment

At each treatment appointment, your clinician will begin by cleansing the skin thoroughly to remove any makeup or residue. The laser is then applied to the target area. Following the treatment, we can offer a wet gauze to apply for comfort where appropriate.

During the procedure, you may experience a sensation of intense heat and prickling on the skin. This is expected and typically subsides within 24 hours of treatment.

Recovery

The recovery period for fractional laser resurfacing is typically five to seven days, and may be longer for higher-intensity treatments such as those targeting deep acne scarring. During this time:

  • You are likely to experience pronounced skin redness (erythema), similar in sensation to mild sunburn, which typically settles within the first 24 hours
  • From around day two, a bronze 'scaling' effect may develop as the old skin begins shedding, this is a normal part of the healing process and will resolve within a few days
  • Treated skin should be protected from sun exposure during the recovery period and beyond

Your clinician will provide personalised aftercare guidance at each appointment and will advise on what products and activities to avoid during the healing period.

What Are The Benefits Of A Fractional Resurfacing Treatment

Fractional laser resurfacing works by encouraging your skin to heal and regenerate from within. As the skin completes its healing response following each session, a number of improvements in skin quality may develop over the course of treatment. Patients who undergo a full course may notice that the treatment:

  • Improves skin texture
  • Decongests the skin
  • Reduces mild, static wrinkles on the face and neck
  • Reduces acne scarring
  • Reducing wrinkles on the hands
  • Aiding in hypertrophic and atrophic scars
  • Aids skin dyschromia

What Fractional Resurfacing Treatment Can Address

We apply fractional laser resurfacing at different intensities and to different areas depending on your individual assessment and goals. Our clinician will discuss the best options for you.

Acne Scarring

For patients who have completed treatment for active acne and are left with residual scarring, including pitted, atrophic, or textural scarring, fractional resurfacing is one of the more established clinical approaches. A course of five to six sessions is typically discussed, with deeper scarring potentially requiring additional sessions. Your clinician will assess your scarring and advise on what a realistic course of treatment may involve for you.

Fine Lines and Mild Wrinkles

The collagen-stimulating effect of fractional laser resurfacing may support a gradual reduction in the appearance of mild static wrinkles, particularly around the face and neck. This treatment may be helpful for patients whose concerns about skin laxity are at an early or moderate stage.

Sun-Damaged Skin and Uneven Tone

Photodamage, including areas of uneven pigmentation, rough texture, or general dullness caused by sun exposure, may respond well to fractional resurfacing. Treatment addresses the surface layer of the skin and stimulates renewal from below, which can support a more even and refreshed overall appearance over a course of sessions.

Skin Renewal and General Rejuvenation

Some patients approach fractional laser resurfacing not with a specific scar or wrinkle concern, but with a broader goal of improving overall skin quality, such as firming, brightening, and refining skin texture. This is a recognised use of the treatment and may be discussed at consultation alongside expectations and the appropriate course.

Hands

Fractional resurfacing can also be applied to the skin on the hands, where fine lines, sun damage, and textural changes are common concerns. Your clinician can assess whether this is appropriate for you.

What to Expect From Your Consultation

Your initial consultation is an opportunity for you to have a thorough, unhurried conversation with one of our clinicians about your concerns, your skin history, and what you are hoping to achieve.

During your consultation, your clinician will:

  • Take time to understand your skin concerns and medical background
  • Assess whether fractional laser resurfacing is an appropriate option for you
  • Explain the treatment process, what to expect during and after sessions, and the likely course of treatment
  • Discuss realistic outcomes at a process level
  • Provide clear information on costs, preparation, and aftercare
  • Answer any questions you have before you make any decision

FAQ

  • What happens during a fractional resurfacing treatment?

Our clinician will prepare the patients skin by cleansing it. Ensuring all makeup and residue has come away from the skin. After the laser is applied, a wet gauze is optional. No products are applied except an SPF.

  • How long is the fractional resurfacing recovery?

Recovery can take up to 7 days if the treatment is performed on a high setting. Which is usually the case for acne or deep scarring. On day 2 of recovery, the patient will develop bronze ‘scales’ known as MEND (micro epidermal necrotic debris) which will shed off within a few days.

  • How many Fractional Resurfacing Treatments would you recommend?

Our team of clinicians recommends a course of 5-6 treatments is strongly recommended to achieve the desired outcome. However, for stretch marks and deep acne scars more sessions may be required.

  • What should I expect after my fractional resurfacing treatment?

You will more than likely get a pronounced erythema (redness) on the area. The feeling can be described as ‘sun burn’. This sensation will typically subside within 24 hours.

  • What should I do prior to my fractional resurfacing treatment?

Your clinician will advise you of the necessary steps you must take prior to the treatment during your consultation. It is advised that there is no exfoliation to the area, no sun exposure, no products are used containing AHA’s and BHA’s. It’s also vitally important that no retinols or steroids are used.

  • How does a fractional resurfacing treatment feel?

Many patients describe it as a very hot, prickly sensation on the skin. It is important that patients know that this isn’t a relaxing spa treatment, this is a clinical treatment.
