Flexible joints are common, and on their own, they do not mean you have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. If hypermobility comes with pain, instability, repeated sprains or dislocations, or fatigue, a specialist assessment can help you make sense of it.

Our rheumatologists assess adults for hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) and hypermobility spectrum disorder (HSD). There is no blood or genetic test that confirms hEDS, so the assessment is clinical, using recognised criteria alongside your symptoms, your medical and family history, a joint examination and, where needed, investigations that consider other causes.

If a diagnosis fits, your consultant will discuss an individualised plan for managing symptoms and protecting joint function. Where your features suggest a rarer inherited connective tissue disorder, they can advise whether a clinical genetics assessment may help.
