MRI Scanning

Home > Tests and Diagnostics > Imaging > MRI Scanning

A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan may be recommended by your GP as it is the best way to diagnose a certain condition. The scan uses a powerful magnet as well as radio waves to produce a detailed image of the relevant part of your body. Some people should not have an MRI scan. This includes people who have;

  • A heart pacemaker
  • Had an operation to the brain or heart
  • Any type of metal implant
  • An injury to the eyes involving metal fragments
  • You are, or might be pregnant
  • A kidney problem

Our Midland Health GPs are able to assess and refer you for an MRI scan if appropriate to one of the MRI scanning facilities near you. If you have any questions or concerns about an MRI scan which has been recommended, contact your Midland Health GP who will be happy to talk things through.
