Does Your Child Require A Paediatric ADHD Assessment?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can present itself in a variety of different ways, but all can affect your child’s daily life. The main characteristic of ADHD is the inability to focus for long periods of time, as well as struggling to take interest in attention to details. As your child grows up, they may struggle with their concentration and organisational skills at school and, later in life, in the world of work. Most often this will result in outbursts of frustration and anger, with many children with ADHD suffering from impatience.

For some, their ADHD diagnosis will lead to additional struggles with interpersonal relationships that will further add to the need for additional allowances at school and further education. However, with an ADHD diagnosis at our Midland Health clinic, you can ensure your child has all the support they need to manage their condition.

If your child displays signs of hyperactivity and struggles to remain engaged in activities, it is important you get your child tested for ADHD as soon as possible. The sooner your child receives a diagnosis the better, allowing them to grow up understanding and managing their behavioural traits.

FAQ

Can my child get diagnosed with ADHD privately?

Yes, of course. At Midland Health, we have a specialist team of paediatric ADHD professionals who are able to carry out gold standard interviews, as well as computerised ADHD assessments to determine whether your child has ADHD. By monitoring their behavioural traits, our private ADHD clinic can diagnose children and adolescents accurately.

If my child is diagnosed with ADHD privately, will the NHS accept their diagnosis?

All ADHD diagnoses made by a healthcare professional, whether privately at Midland Heath or otherwise, are valid. The NHS will not disregard a diagnosis made at our private ADHD clinic.

Can my child continue the treatment with the NHS?

We provide Shared Care Agreements which give the option to continue treatment with your NHS GP. If your child is under Shared Care Agreement our Consultant paediatrician will need to see the child every 6 months to assess their suitability to continue taking medication.

Am I able to arrange for my child to have an ADHD assessment privately?

Yes, you can book your child for an ADHD appointment today using our online booking form. There is no need for a GP referral, simply select the date and time that is most convenient for you and our ADHD specialist will look forward to seeing you.

Is it possible to continue receiving my child’s prescribed medication from their NHS GP after a private ADHD assessment?

Our ADHD paediatric specialists may prescribe your child medication to help stabilise their ADHD tendencies. When your child is stable on this medication, it is possible to continue this prescription through an NHS GP using a shared care prescribing agreement. Your GP will need to accept and agree to issue a repeat prescription. While our healthcare professionals are happy to arrange a shared care agreement, we recommend checking with your NHS GP first. Unfortunately, we are unable to guarantee whether this is something they will agree to. However, we can continue to prescribe you this medication at Midland Health under the approval of our psychiatrists.
