If an infection is acute, it will flare up quickly and may require immediate medical attention. This can be anxiety-provoking and difficult to manage, alongside the stresses of everyday life. With the right treatment and care given by a specialist, however, symptoms may be relieved in a matter of days. With Midland Health, you can book an urgent appointment online by sending us an email or over the phone and be seen the same day. A friendly GP will provide you with advice or treatment to get you back on your feet as quickly as possible, and a prescription issued.

The most common types of acute infection are;

Viral Infections –

Acute viral infections are commonly observed with pathogens such as influenza and the common cold but also include more severe diseases such as HIV or measles. Characterised by an incubation period, viral infections may begin with minimal to no symptoms, however, once flared; symptoms may include aches, pains, rashes or fever.  You may just be feeling generally unwell or rundown.

Bacterial Infections –

Acute bacterial infections such as urinary tract infections, bacterial rhinosinusitis (infection of the nasal cavity) and Escherichia coli (most commonly transmitted via food poisoning) may need antibiotics. These infections can cause a variety of symptoms such as pain or burning when passing urine, severe symptoms such as excessive mucus, pain, vomiting and diarrhoea, cramping and inflammation.
If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms and think you may have an acute infection, please call 0121 456 0880 for an urgent appointment with one of our acute infections specialists.
