  • Abdominal pain: Diagnosis and treatment of abdominal pain and discomfort caused by a range of issues, such as infections, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diverticular disease & bowel cancer
  • Bowel cancer: If you are experiencing symptoms, such as rectal bleeding, unexplained weight loss, abdominal pain and change in bowel habits, you may want to consider being examined for bowel cancer
  • Piles (haemorrhoids): If you are often constipated and you are experiencing bleeding, itching and pain while passing stool, you may have haemorrhoids and you should be checked out by a general surgery specialist
  • Colonoscopy: We can perform a camera examination of your colon and lower bowel to identify potential causes of your symptoms, such as polyps, growths and inflammation
  • Gallstones: If you are suffering from abdominal pain, especially after eating, you may have gallstones - these should be examined as they may cause infections, jaundice and pancreatitis

Our General Surgery Team

Our general surgery department is headed by Mr Rajeev Peravali, an expert in general and colorectal surgery with more than 18 years of experience in the field.  As a University of Birmingham graduate (BMedSc (Hons), MBChB, Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery, MCh, FRCS (Ed.)), Rajeev has built up his expertise over the years while working in a variety of prestigious medical institutions, including the University Hospital Birmingham, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and Cambridge University Hospital. 

One of the highlights of Mr Peravali’s impressive list of professional achievements is being selected for the distinguished “John Goligher Fellowship in advanced Coloproctology.” Furthermore, Rajeev has been published in leading scientific publications in his area. Due to his well-established knowledge in the general surgery field, he often acts as a consultant on complex, challenging cases where advanced knowledge and skills are required.

In addition to his thriving general surgery practice in Birmingham, Rajeev is also the lead inflammatory bowel disease surgeon at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.
