Gonorrhoea Testing

Common symptoms of Gonorrhoea include:

Women

• Unusual discharge from your vagina
• Pain when you wee/ difficulty with urination
• Pain when you have sex
• Pain in your abdomen/ pelvis area
• Bleeding between periods or after you’ve had sex
• Heavy than usual periods

Men

• Unusual discharge from your penis
• Pain when you wee/ difficulty with urination
• Itching at the tip of your penis
• Swelling of the testicles (less common)

Gonorrhoea can cause complications, including inflammatory pelvic disease in women, and swelling of the testicles in men. Both can lead to infertility if left untreated.

How do we test for Gonorrhoea?

Testing involves taking a sample via urine or a swab from the neck of the vagina/ tip of the penis. The results are returned from the laboratory within 2 days and communicated via your chosen method of contact.
