If you have symptoms that are hard to explain, or test results that nobody has been able to make sense of, it can be tiring to keep looking for answers. You may have seen one or more specialists already and still feel unsure what is going on.

Our General Medicine service with Dr Rajinder Andev is designed for people whose symptoms belong to no single specialty. You will have time to talk through your full history, and we will look at your overall health with you.

Do I Need a General Medicine Appointment?

When something feels wrong and you are unsure which doctor to see, a first conversation can help you work out where to start. An appointment may be worth considering if your symptoms affect more than one part of your body, or do not point to a single system specialism.

  • Unexplained tiredness or low energy
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Loss of appetite
  • General weakness or reduced ability to exercise
  • Feeling generally unwell
  • Unexplained sweats, including night sweats
  • Unexplained or recurring fevers
  • Dizziness, light-headedness or recurring faint feelings
  • Breathlessness where the cause is unclear
  • Heart palpitations
  • New swelling (oedema) or a build-up of fluid in the body
  • Unexplained sweats, including night sweats
  • Unexplained or recurring fevers
  • General pain with no obvious reason
  • Aches all over the body, or muscle and joint symptoms without a clear diagnosis
  • Recurring infections, or concern about an underlying illness
  • You have blood test results you do not understand. These might include anaemia, signs of inflammation, abnormal liver or kidney tests, changes in blood salt levels (electrolytes) or calcium, abnormal blood counts, or several borderline results together.
  • You have had a health check that found something unexpected.
  • You have several medical conditions and it is unclear which one is causing your current symptoms.
  • You have seen one or more specialists and still do not have a clear explanation.

How We Can Help

A general medical doctor will assess your health as a whole. Symptoms that do not appear connected to a single system are often best discussed with a specialist who has a deep understanding of general health, who will consider all of your symptoms together.

Our assessment focuses on how your symptoms, results and existing conditions may relate to each other, and on agreeing the next steps with you. Dr Andev will review your history, your medicines and any previous test results or specialist letters you bring, so we can consider them together.

Depending on what you tell us and what we find, next steps may include further tests, a referral to a specialist suited to your needs, or a follow-up appointment to review how things are going.

You will have space to ask questions, and we aim to understand your concerns fully.

Is This the Right Service for You?

If your symptoms have no clear cause, affect more than one part of your body, or have not led to a diagnosis, and you would like one doctor to look at them together, book an appointment.

If you feel well and would like a general health check up, our 360 Health Assessments or Medical Health Checks and Screening may be a better first step.

We also offer Private Blood Tests and Routine GP appointments. If you would like a second view on a diagnosis you already have, our Second Opinions service may help.

What to Expect From an Appointment

Explain your symptoms in your own words.

Before You Come

It can help to bring:

  • Any previous test results, scans or letters from other doctors or specialists
  • A list of your current medicines
  • Notes on your symptoms, such as when they started and what seems to make them better or worse

During Your Appointment

Dr Andev will ask about your symptoms, your medical history and how things are affecting your daily life. He will review any results or letters you have brought. Where appropriate, he will carry out a medical examination.

We will talk through what we have found in plain language, including what your symptoms and results may mean. If it would help us understand your situation, we may discuss tests such as blood tests or scans, or a referral to a specialist. Your consultant will explain their recommendations in detail, including any extra costs, so you can make an informed decision.

Follow-Up Steps and Appointments

Whether you need a follow-up depends on your assessment. A follow-up appointment gives you and Dr Andev a chance to go through test results, talk about how your symptoms are changing, and agree what comes next.
