Dr Rupa Parmar, GP and Medical Director at Midland Health, has been named Outstanding Female Entrepreneur of the Year at the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce Awards 2025.
The award recognises her remarkable impact on healthcare in Birmingham and her dedicated service to the community.
Dr Parmar founded Midland Health in response to the growing difficulties dozens of people continue to face when it comes to accessing medical care when they need it the most. What began as a single consultation room in Birmingham has grown into a network of four clinics, supported by more than 100 staff and consultants.
The healthcare professionals at Midland Health saw over 12,000 patients last year, with turnover increasing by 35%.
Commenting on Midland Health’s success, Dr Parmar said, “It’s a huge honour to be recognised for the contributions I’ve made to my community. I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come, and I’m grateful to the team and community who have supported us throughout this journey.
“Everyone deserves prompt, high-quality healthcare, and we are proud to have built a service designed around patients’ needs. In the space of a few years, we have expanded into a modern, multi-site practice that provides comprehensive GP, diagnostic and specialist services all under one roof.
“We continue to grow and invest in new services, strengthen our partnerships with hospitals across the West Midlands, and welcome new specialist consultants to the team,” she added.
Midland Health’s growth has been shaped by Dr Parmar’s ability to identify gaps in care and respond quickly. In the past year alone, she has introduced a number of new services, including:
- Dry Eye Laser Treatment
- Headache and Migraine Care
- Endocrinology
- Rheumatology
- Speech & Language Therapy
- Pain Management
- Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services
- Paediatric Gynaecology
She has also expanded neurodiversity services, such as ADHD and autism assessments, helping families who face long delays elsewhere.
As a South Asian woman in medicine and business, Dr Parmar’s leadership has inspired many across Birmingham. She has created a workplace where staff from all backgrounds are encouraged to grow, with team members being promoted internally into management roles.
But her commitment to the local community goes beyond the clinic walls. She has delivered menopause support sessions at West Midlands Police HQ, worked within prisons to support vulnerable individuals, and built partnerships with consultants, training academies and local organisations.
“We are proud to be a trusted healthcare provider for Birmingham’s Asian community, as well as the community at large. We have doctors who speak a range of languages, such as Punjabi and Urdu, as well as access to interpreters. This means that we can ensure that every patient who visits our clinic feels understood and supported. Not to mention, visiting family members can access same-day appointments quickly without adding pressure on our already strained emergency services,” Dr Parmar concluded.
