Thrush

Thrush is a type of yeast infection which occurs in both men and women. It isn’t harmful; however, symptoms of thrush are often uncomfortable and can reoccur. Symptoms include;

Women

• Thick white discharge
• Itching and irritation outside of the vagina
• Stinging when you pee
• Mild pain during sex

Men

• Irritation and redness around the head of the penis and under the foreskin
• Thick white discharge
• Difficulty pulling back the foreskin
• An unpleasant smell from the genital area

Thrush can be treated using over the counter anti-fungal medication which your pharmacist can you advise on. It may be helpful to visit your GP, however, if you are experiencing symptoms for the first time, are experiencing frequent re-occurrence (more that twice in 6 months), have compromised immunity e.g. a diagnosis of HIV, you’re pregnant or if over-the-counter treatment hasn’t worked.
