Private Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Clinic in Birmingham

Home > Gastroenterology Clinic Birmingham > Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic

At our dedicated Private Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Clinic in Birmingham, we understand the emotional and physical toll of living with digestive discomfort. Whether you're newly experiencing symptoms or managing a long-standing condition like Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis, getting timely, expert care can make a world of difference.

With same-day and next-day appointments available and no referral needed, we offer an alternative to long NHS waiting lists, helping you take back control of your health, faster and with confidence.

Skip the NHS Waiting List

The NHS offers excellent care, but many patients are forced to wait weeks or even months for a specialist appointment, during which symptoms can worsen and anxiety grows. At our clinic, you can bypass the delays and speak directly with a highly experienced specialist without needing a GP referral.

You can expect:

  • Same-day or next-day appointments
  • Direct booking with no referral
  • Fast access to tests and diagnostics

How We Can Help

Living with IBD means navigating unpredictable flare-ups, dietary changes, and the anxiety of the unknown. We're here to simplify that journey with a comprehensive, compassionate approach tailored to your needs.

Our clinic supports patients in a wide range of situations, including:

  • Confirming a diagnosis or getting a second opinion
  • Investigating new or unexplained gastrointestinal symptoms
  • Reviewing and updating current treatment plans
  • Managing ongoing symptoms, flare-ups, or complications
  • Providing reassurance and clarity when things feel uncertain
  • Optimising care using a multidisciplinary approach, including dietitian input

Do I Need an Appointment?

Many people delay seeing a specialist, unsure whether their symptoms are serious enough. Delays in diagnosing IBD can lead to increased complications and may lead to a more difficult-to-manage disease. If you’ve noticed ongoing digestive issues or you’ve already been diagnosed and don’t feel fully supported, it may be time to speak to an expert.

Common reasons patients seek our help include:

  • Waiting too long for NHS care
  • Persistent or worsening symptoms
  • New side effects or concerns about treatment
  • Recently diagnosed and unsure about next steps
  • Looking for a more proactive or personalised care plan

Specialist Care for Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis with No Waiting List.

Symptoms and Conditions We Support

IBD isn’t always easy to identify, as its symptoms often overlap with other conditions. That’s why seeing a specialist matters; we can help differentiate between similar conditions and ensure nothing is missed.

We diagnose and treat both Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and Indeterminate Colitis, and also support patients with related or overlapping conditions such as:

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Microscopic Colitis
  • Coeliac Disease
  • Post-infectious bowel issues

If you're experiencing any of the following, we recommend an assessment:

  • Ongoing abdominal pain or discomfort
  • Frequent or urgent diarrhoea
  • Blood or mucus in your stool
  • Fatigue or anaemia
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Bloating, nausea, or food intolerance

Our Approach

No two patients are alike, and neither are their treatment needs. Our clinic takes a bespoke, evidence-led approach that evolves with you. We work closely with you to understand your symptoms, lifestyle, and goals so we can create a care plan that fits, not just medically, but practically and emotionally too.

Your tailored treatment plan may include:

  • In-depth blood tests, stool analysis, colonoscopy or imaging
  • Management of medications (including immunosuppressants)
  • Nutritional guidance and dietary support
  • Lifestyle and stress management techniques
  • Flare-up planning and long-term condition monitoring

FAQ

  • How much does private care cost to treat IBD?

The cost of private treatment for Inflammatory Bowel Disease depends on the complexity of your condition, any diagnostic tests needed, and the treatment approach. An initial consultation starts from £265, and we offer transparent pricing for tests and follow-up care. For ongoing support, we also provide tailored care packages designed to be cost-effective and comprehensive.

  • Which hospital is best for Inflammatory Bowel Disease care?

There are several highly regarded NHS centres of excellence for IBD; however, at our private clinic in Birmingham, you can access the same high standard of care without the long waiting times, with the added benefit of personalised, one-to-one support from a specialist.

  • How much do IBD patients cost the NHS each year?

Inflammatory Bowel Disease is a significant burden on the NHS, costing over £1 billion per year. This includes expenses related to hospital admissions, advanced medications, surgical interventions, and ongoing outpatient care for chronic cases.

  • Do I need to go to A&E with my IBD symptoms?

Only go to A&E if you’re experiencing severe abdominal pain, profuse bleeding, vomiting, dehydration, or signs of a bowel obstruction. Most NHS IBD clinics offer a helpline for IBD specialist nurses for non-emergency flare-ups or worsening symptoms; however, it may be more comfortable to book an urgent outpatient appointment with a specialist, such as at our private clinic.

  • Can I live a long life with IBD?

Yes, absolutely. With the right treatment and lifestyle management, most people with IBD live full, healthy lives. While flare-ups can be challenging, long-term control is achievable through regular monitoring, personalised treatment, and early intervention when symptoms arise.

  • What are the main causes of IBD?

The exact cause of IBD isn’t fully known, but it’s thought to result from a combination of genetic factors, an overactive immune response, and environmental triggers such as diet, stress, and gut bacteria. It’s not caused by anything you’ve done, and it’s not contagious.

  • Are there any warning signs of IBD?

IBD symptoms can vary, but some common early warning signs include:

    • Persistent or recurring diarrhoea
    • Blood or mucus in the stool
    • Abdominal pain or cramping
    • Bloating or discomfort after meals
    • Chronic fatigue
    • Unexplained weight loss

If you’re experiencing any of these, it’s important to speak to a specialist as soon as possible.

  • Are there different types of IBD?

IBD includes three different conditions that cause inflammation in the digestive tract:

    • Crohn’s Disease: This can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract, from the mouth to the anus, and often involves deeper layers of the bowel wall.
    • Ulcerative Colitis: This type typically affects only the colon (large intestine) and rectum, with inflammation limited to the inner lining.
    • Microscopic Colitis: This causes chronic diarrhoea and inflammation visible only under a microscope, often misdiagnosed as IBS.
