What to expect from your first appointment

When you come to your first appointment at Midland Health, your women's health physiotherapist will discuss any issues you are experiencing and will conduct a detailed assessment of your symptoms.

If more information is needed, your doctor may ask you to keep a bladder diary. That would require you to write down what you are drinking during a period of time (usually, three days), as well as how often you go to the toilet and how much urine you pass.

If you are suffering from bladder and pelvic pain symptoms, your physiotherapist might ask you to undergo a vaginal examination to assess your pelvic floor muscles. If you don’t feel comfortable doing the check on your first exam, that’s perfectly fine. You will be offered appropriate treatment regardless.

Expect your initial appointment to take between 30 - 60 minutes. Once our expert women’s physiotherapist has been able to thoroughly assess your case, you will be offered a completely bespoke treatment plan designed for you.
