Private Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) Treatment

Home > Birmingham Urology Clinic > Private Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) Treatment

Recurrent UTIs can be painful, disruptive and emotionally exhausting. If these infections are affecting your comfort, confidence or day-to-day life, our specialist Urology team at Midland Health Edgbaston is here to help with compassionate, expert-led care.

As a fully private clinic, we offer no GP referral, no waiting lists, and fast access to Consultant Urologists, often within days. With NHS waiting times for urology stretching into weeks or even months, we provide immediate access to diagnosis, treatment and long-term prevention so you can feel better sooner.

How We Can Help

Recurrent UTIs can affect every aspect of your daily life, your sleep, work, confidence, relationships, and overall well-being. Many people who come to us feel frustrated or anxious because their symptoms keep returning despite treatment. We understand how draining this can be, and our role is to bring clarity, comfort and long-lasting relief.

Our Consultant Urologists take time to listen carefully to your symptoms and fully understand the impact they are having. Because recurrent UTIs can have multiple possible causes, we look at the whole picture, from hormonal factors and bladder function to lifestyle influences and bacterial resistance. With immediate access to advanced testing and tailored care plans, we help you move beyond short-term fixes and towards sustainable, long-term improvement.

Do I Need an Appointment?

You may benefit from a specialist Urology consultation if:

  • You’ve had two or more UTIs in six months, or three or more in a year
  • Your symptoms return shortly after antibiotics
  • You feel ongoing discomfort, urgency, or bladder pain
  • You have a fever, flank pain, or blood in your urine
  • UTIs are recurring at key times, such as after intercourse
  • You want a thorough assessment and long-term plan, not repeat antibiotics

Who Can We Help

We welcome:

  • Women with recurrent UTIs, including post-menopausal patients
  • Men experiencing prostatitis or prostate-related infections
  • Young adults or teenagers with ongoing bladder issues
  • Children and toddlers with suspected UTIs
  • Individuals with complex or long-standing symptoms
  • Anyone who wants quick, specialist-led care without delays

Our Approach and Treatment Options

Our approach is collaborative, thorough and grounded in medical expertise. Because every patient is different, we develop a personalised plan that explores why your infections are recurring and how to stop them.

Your care may include:

  • Comprehensive Medical Review: We look beyond symptoms to explore bladder function, hydration, sexual health factors, hormones, menopause, lifestyle habits and previous treatments.
  • Precise Urine Testing and Culture: This identifies the exact bacteria causing infection, detects antibiotic resistance and helps us select the safest and most effective treatment.
  • On-Site Ultrasound: A quick, painless scan that checks the bladder and kidneys for stones, inflammation or structural concerns.
  • Flexible Cystoscopy: A minimally invasive procedure used when symptoms persist, giving an immediate view of the bladder to identify inflammation, narrowing, or underlying issues.
  • Tailored Treatment Plans: We avoid unnecessary antibiotics and instead focus on what works for your specific infection pattern.
  • Non-Antibiotic Prevention Strategies: Including D-mannose, vaginal oestrogen for post-menopausal women, supplements, hydration and lifestyle modifications.
  • Long-Term Prevention: You’ll leave with a clear, sustainable plan to reduce the frequency of infections and regain confidence in your bladder health.

Your consultant will explain everything clearly and support you every step of the way so you feel fully reassured and informed.

FAQ

Recurrent infections may be linked to anatomy, hormones, bladder emptying issues, sexual activity, kidney stones, menopause or resistant bacteria. We will investigate the underlying cause and develop a targeted plan to reduce infection frequency.

No, you can book directly with our Urologists.

Yes. We use culture testing to select the most effective treatment and can offer non-antibiotic prevention options.

Only if symptoms suggest an underlying issue. Your consultant will explain what is recommended and why.

Usually within a few days, often sooner.

Around 80% of UTIs are caused by E. coli bacteria. These normally live in the gut but can enter the urinary tract. Hormonal changes, sexual activity, menopause, dehydration or bladder emptying issues can make this more likely.

There is no instant cure, but drinking water, avoiding caffeine and alcohol, and urinating regularly can help ease symptoms. For reliable relief, you should be assessed promptly. We provide same-day and next-day testing and rapid treatment.

Yes, you can see a specialist without a GP referral, and if appropriate, antibiotics can be prescribed during your appointment following assessment and urine testing.

If you suspect a toddler has a UTI, they should be assessed quickly. Most children require a urine sample and may need antibiotics. At home, encourage fluids, regular toilet trips, and age-appropriate pain relief such as paracetamol. Our paediatric and Urology specialists can provide rapid assessment and treatment.
