Pneumococcal (Pneumonia Vaccine)

Also known as the pneumonia vaccine, pneumococcal can protect against potentially fatal infections caused by the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae, such as pneumonia, septicaemia and meningitis. The vaccine is usually recommended to children younger than 2, adults over the age of 65, and anyone in between with compromised immunity e.g. certain medical conditions. Only a single injection is needed, however, it is possible to get a booster 5-10 years later.
