Dxcover Blood Test for Brain Cancer
Home >If you have been living with headaches or other symptoms that have not settled, it is understandable to want a clear answer about what is causing them. Many people come to us after being told their symptoms are likely down to migraine, tiredness or stress, and they would still value a closer look.
Our GP-led service offers the Dxcover Brain Cancer Liquid Biopsy, a simple blood test that helps your doctor decide whether a brain scan is worthwhile. You do not need a referral for this test, and you will not join a waiting list.
Should You Book an Appointment?
Most headaches and similar symptoms come from something far less serious than a brain tumour, and brain tumours are uncommon. However, if you are experiencing the following symptoms, and they are persistent or new for you, it is worth speaking to a doctor.
- Headaches
- Migraine
- Memory problems
- Changes in personality
- Confusion
- Loss of movement or coordination
- Changes to your vision
- Weakness
- Drowsiness
We will listen to what you have noticed and talk through whether this blood test, or another route, fits your situation.
If your symptoms are sudden or severe
If you develop a sudden, severe headache unlike any you have had before, or sudden weakness, difficulty speaking, or loss of consciousness, seek urgent medical care by calling 999 or attending your nearest A&E department.
How the Dxcover Blood Test Works
The Dxcover Brain Cancer Liquid Biopsy is a simple blood test. It was developed as a triage tool, which means it helps your doctor decide who should be referred quickly for a brain scan. It does not diagnose a brain tumour on its own.
Your clinician can take a blood sample in the clinic and send it to a laboratory, where it is analysed for biochemical signals. A trained healthcare professional then reviews the result alongside your symptoms and medical history.
- A positive result means we arrange a prompt referral for a brain scan.
- A negative result can offer reassurance that a brain tumour is unlikely.
While false negatives can happen, your results will be read by your consultant alongside your wider clinical presentation, and their judgement will guide your ongoing care.
When a brain tumour is found earlier, there may be more treatment options to consider.
Pricing
We keep pricing clear and explain everything in advance, so you can make an informed decision. A full breakdown will be provided before anything goes ahead. Please contact us to discuss the cost of the Dxcover Blood Test.

What to Expect From Your Appointment
Your visit should feel calm and unhurried, with time to talk things through.
Your appointment usually lasts around 30 to 45 minutes and begins with a private GP consultation. You can talk about your symptoms and any worries you have. Your doctor will use the test result alongside their clinical judgement, taking account of your medical history and symptoms.
If a blood test is right for you, we take the sample in the clinic and send it to the laboratory. You can usually expect your result within a few days. If any further care or referral is recommended, we will talk through the next steps with you.

Is This the Right Service for You?
This service may suit you if you are an adult with ongoing head-related symptoms and you would value a private assessment and, where appropriate, a blood test that helps decide whether a brain scan is needed.
If your main concern is managing migraine rather than checking for a tumour, our Migraine and Complex Headache Service may be the better first step. We can help you find the right route during your appointment.
Your Results and What Comes Next
You will receive a call from the consultant to explain your result in plain language.
If your result is positive, the doctor will arrange a prompt referral for a brain scan.
If it is negative, they talk through what that means and make recommendations for ongoing care.
Whatever the result, you will have the chance to ask questions and understand your options before you decide what to do.
