PRP Skin Treatment in Birmingham

Home > Dermatology > Aesthetic Treatments in Birmingham > PRP Skin Treatment in Birmingham

Skin that looks dull, dry or less firm than it used to can be a quiet worry. If you are here, you may be weighing up whether PRP skin treatments could help.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) uses a small sample of your own blood. Our clinic uses a type of PRP called Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) treatments, as research points to more sustained outcomes. Your treatment at Midland Health will be under completely sterile conditions.

Do I Need an Appointment?

Most people who come to us have thought about skin treatments for some time and want an informed opinion first.

You may have noticed:

  • Skin that looks dull or dry, or has lost firmness
  • Fine lines
  • Uneven skin texture and tone
  • Tired-looking skin around the eyes

Specialist Assessment As Needed

If there is any cause for concern about your skin, your clinician will arrange an assessment with our dermatology team first, so that we understand the cause.

How We Can Help

Our Approach: PRP and PRF

PRP and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) both use a small sample of your own blood. A clinician draws the blood, and uses a centrifuge, a machine that spins the sample, to concentrate the platelets. The clinician then injects the concentrated portion into the area being treated.

Your treatment will use injectable platelet-rich fibrin, or i-PRF. This is a newer form of PRP, prepared without an anticoagulant so the concentrated plasma can form a natural fibrin matrix.

Published research shows that i-PRF holds a higher concentration of platelets than PRP and releases growth factors more gradually and over a longer period.1 Your clinician will explain what this means for your treatment.

PRP Skin Rejuvenation

Our clinic provides cosmetic PRP treatments for facial and skin ageing concerns. PRP injections are intended to revive the appearance of skin in the face, neck and under eye areas. For the face and neck, we include a microneedling process to encourage the skin to produce more collagen and elastin.

You may notice improvements in skin quality and hydration soon after the treatment, while collagen and regenerative changes develop over the following weeks and months. Your clinician will tell you what is realistic for your skin before you decide.

Prices

Any investigations or additional treatment recommended during your consultation may involve further costs. We will explain these clearly before anything is arranged.

Meet the Team

Emma Conway, Cosmetic Practitioner

Emma Conway delivers our PRP treatments for facial and skin rejuvenation.

Emma worked in a busy NHS maternity service from 2017, supporting women and families through pregnancy and birth. She moved on from the NHS to follow her interest in laser hair removal and laser treatments, and in 2023 she established her own cosmetic clinic. She now offers those treatments at Midland Health.

Is This the Right Service for You?

A consultation can help you understand whether PRP suits you before you commit to the cost. Our PRP service is for adults aged 18 and over.

You will have a medical assessment first. Your clinician will go through anything in your health or medication history that suggests PRP may not suit you.

If you are mainly concerned about thinning hair, a PRP hair restoration appointment may be the better first step. If a skin change worries you, our dermatology service can help.

What to Expect From an Appointment

Our Treatment Process

On the day of a treatment, a clinician will look at your skin and understand your history. They’ll takes a small sample of blood from your arm and spins it in a centrifuge. Because we use i-PRF, no anticoagulant is added to the sample. This concentrates the platelets in a small amount of plasma, which forms a natural fibrin matrix. The clinician then injects this portion into the treatment area.

Afterwards

You may have some redness, mild swelling, tenderness or sensitivity, pinpoint bleeding or bruising where the injections were given, and some short-lived discomfort. These effects are normally mild and settle quickly.

Your clinician will tell you what to expect for your treatment and how to look after your skin.

Follow-Up Appointments

PRP is usually given as a course rather than as a single treatment, and your clinician will set out your personal plan before anything starts.

For facial and skin rejuvenation, our recommended first course is three treatments, about four weeks apart. After this, you can have an approach that suits your skin, with further treatments every six to twelve months depending on your skin concerns and your response.

FAQs

  • Does PRP Work for Skin?

Published studies on PRP for skin are encouraging.2 Your clinician will tell you where the evidence stands for your specific concern.

  • How Much Does PRP for Skin Cost?

Our prices are listed in full above. Facial treatments start at £225. If a dermatology consultation is needed, this is charged separately, and anything additional recommended during it will be explained and costed before it is arranged.

  • What Are the Side Effects of PRP?

PRP generally involves very little recovery or side effects. You may notice mild redness, swelling, tenderness or sensitivity, pinpoint bleeding or bruising at the injection sites, and some temporary discomfort. These are usually mild and short-lived. Keep injection sites clean and dry until fully healed to prevent infection.

Because PRP uses your own blood, there is no donor material involved. Your clinician will explain any risks that apply to your treatment before you consent to it.

  • When Is PRP Not Suitable?

PRP may not be suitable, or may need further medical assessment first, if you have:

    • an active infection
    • a significant platelet disorder or a very low platelet count
    • significant anaemia or certain other blood disorders
    • certain clotting disorders
    • blood-thinning medication
    • an active cancer or certain cancer histories
    • a significant systemic illness or an uncontrolled medical condition

Elective treatments are generally deferred during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

  • Is PRP Covered by Insurance?

PRP is not usually covered by private medical insurance, so it is normally self-funded. If you intend to use insurance, please contact us before booking so we can tell you where you stand.
