Having an allergy can have a real effect on your child’s day-to-day life, restricting them from enjoying certain activities. Suffering from hay fever is no exception.

At our private allergy clinic, we have a range of hay fever immunotherapy treatments to help your child access the right treatment options for them. With the help of our GPs and medical professionals, we can help diagnose your child’s hay fever and manage their condition.

What is Immunotherapy?

Sometimes recognised as desensitisation treatment, immunotherapy helps to treat a range of allergies. The treatment is commonly administered orally by giving the patient a small dose of the allergen or another substance to stimulate a reaction from the immune system.

What Allergies Can Immunotherapy Treat?

Sometimes recognised as desensitisation treatment, immunotherapy helps to treat a range of allergies. The treatment is commonly administered orally by giving the patient a small dose of the allergen under the tongue.

Unlike other allergy treatments, the aim of desensitisation immunotherapy is not to suppress your systems. Instead, it aims to rewire the immune system, preventing the development of an allergic reaction in the first instance. However, some effective hay fever immunotherapy options look to suppress symptoms through a controlled dosage of a steroid administered intramuscularly.

Desensitisation methods can be successful in treating allergies to:

  • Dust mites (aeroallergens)
  • Grass pollen
  • Tree pollen
  • Severe hay fever
  • Wasp and bee
  • Animal fur

Unfortunately, this method of treatment is not effective on food allergies or skin reactions, such as eczema.
