We understand that discovering a change in your breast or attending a breast clinic can be an anxious and worrying experience. Our One-Stop Breast Clinic in Birmingham has been carefully designed to provide compassionate, expert care in a calm and supportive environment, helping you get answers quickly and with reassurance.
Our Breast Clinic provides expert assessment for a wide range of breast symptoms and conditions. No concern is too small, and we encourage patients to speak to us about any new, persistent or worrying changes.
Breast lumps are common and are often benign (not cancerous). Our specialists are experienced in distinguishing between harmless conditions and those that require further investigation.
Benign causes may include fibroadenomas, breast cysts, fibrocystic change, lipomas, fat necrosis, hamartomas and abscesses. These conditions can occur at any age and often require monitoring or simple treatment.
Where a lump appears suspicious, we investigate thoroughly for conditions such as invasive ductal carcinoma, invasive lobular carcinoma and ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), ensuring prompt diagnosis and onward care if needed.
For patients with a strong family history or known genetic risk, we offer personalised risk assessment, surveillance planning, MRI screening and chemoprevention counselling where appropriate.
Breast pain is a frequent concern and is rarely linked to cancer. We assess both cyclical breast pain related to hormonal changes and non-cyclical pain, as well as chest wall or musculoskeletal pain that can mimic breast discomfort. Pain associated with infection, inflammation or injury is also carefully evaluated.
Hormonal changes can affect the breasts at many stages of life. We support patients with fibrocystic breast disease, contraceptive- or HRT-related changes, pregnancy-related breast concerns and pubertal breast development issues.
If you have suspected or diagnosed breast cancer, our clinic is here to support you every step of the way. We provide expert assessment, staging, and guidance for all types and stages of breast cancer, including early diagnosis, locally advanced disease, inflammatory cancer, recurrent disease, and metastatic cancer. Our team works closely with multidisciplinary specialists to plan your care and ensure you receive the right treatment, support, and guidance throughout your journey.
Breast infections can occur during breastfeeding or at other times. We diagnose and manage acute and chronic mastitis, periductal mastitis and breast abscesses, aiming to relieve symptoms quickly and prevent recurrence.
Changes affecting the skin or nipple can include eczema, nipple inversion, skin dimpling (peau d’orange), redness, ulceration or thickening. We also assess suspected Paget’s disease, inflammatory breast cancer, mastitis and abscesses, ensuring early diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
Nipple discharge can be distressing but is often benign. We assess both physiological and pathological discharge, including lactational discharge, galactorrhoea, and abnormal duct-related conditions. Where discharge is bloody or persistent, we investigate for underlying causes such as intraductal papilloma or, more rarely, breast cancer.
We assess abnormal findings from NHS or private screening, as well as incidental findings on MRI scans. These may include microcalcifications, architectural distortion, asymmetries or suspicious masses, all of which are investigated carefully and sensitively.
Men can also develop breast conditions, and we provide discreet, expert assessment for gynaecomastia, male breast cancer, infections and benign breast lumps.
What To Expect At Your Appointment
Your appointment is centred around you and your individual concerns. We take time to listen, understand what has brought you to the clinic, and explain each stage of your visit in a clear, reassuring way.
You will be seen by an experienced member of our specialist team, who will assess your symptoms and discuss the most appropriate next steps. Depending on your age, symptoms, and clinical findings, your appointment may include a consultation, a careful breast examination, and imaging such as an ultrasound. Where appropriate, a mammogram can be arranged through one of our trusted partner hospitals.
Wherever possible, investigations are completed on the same day. If further assessment is needed, a biopsy can often be carried out during your visit, with samples sent promptly for analysis to minimise delays and uncertainty.
Throughout your time with us, our team will guide you through each step, answer your questions fully, and ensure you feel supported, reassured, and well cared for.
Our Breast Clinic is led by consultants who are recognised experts in their field.

No. Most breast lumps are benign and not cancer. Common causes include cysts and fibroadenomas. However, any new lump should always be assessed by a specialist for reassurance.
Breast pain on its own is rarely a sign of cancer. It is commonly related to hormonal changes, inflammation or musculoskeletal causes, but assessment is important if pain is persistent or concerning.
