Home > IV Nutrition and Vitamin Injections in Birmingham
At Midland Health, we offer nurse-led assessments for adults considering IV nutrition, vitamin infusions and vitamin injections in Birmingham. Our approach begins with understanding your health, medical history and reasons for enquiring, rather than selecting an IV drip from a menu alone.
Following your consultation, our clinical team will advise whether a treatment is appropriate, whether blood tests are needed and what alternatives may be more suitable. Where treatment is agreed and clinically authorised, a separate administration appointment will be arranged at our Edgbaston clinic.
IV vitamin treatments are not a replacement for a balanced diet, oral hydration or assessment of persistent symptoms. They may not offer added benefit when nutrient levels are already adequate, and results cannot be guaranteed.
Speak to our nursing team about your medical history, current medicines and treatment options before deciding what may be suitable.

Our IV vitamin therapy options
The range below provides an overview of the treatments under consideration at Midland Health. Every infusion requires an individual clinical assessment. Ingredients, strengths, expected appointment length and availability will be confirmed by the team before treatment is supplied.
Midland IV Hydration
A 500 ml sodium chloride (saline) infusion with a proposed combination of B-group vitamins, vitamin C, folic acid and vitamin B12. This is the entry-level option in our IV menu. During your appointment, the nurse will explain why this formulation may or may not be appropriate for you, including whether drinking fluids or a different approach would be preferable.
Midland Essential IV
An IV formulation combining saline with B-complex vitamins, vitamin C and magnesium. The team will review your medical history, any relevant test results and the rationale for including each ingredient before recommending treatment. It is not established that IV vitamins improve physical performance or recovery in otherwise healthy people.
Midland Myers IV
A Myers-style vitamin and mineral infusion. The proposed recipe includes saline, B-group vitamins (including B12), vitamin C, magnesium and zinc. The precise preparation is subject to the clinician’s review, and the nurse will explain its ingredients, expected procedure and possible alternatives at the consultation.
Midland Advanced IV
A broader vitamin and mineral infusion offered through the same assessment-first pathway. The proposed base includes saline, a multivitamin component, vitamin C, magnesium and B12. The final combination must be agreed by the clinical team and explained before consent.
NAD+ IV — 500 mg or 1,000 mg
NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is naturally involved in cellular processes. If you are considering an NAD+ infusion, a clinician will discuss the limited evidence for wellness uses, the proposed preparation, appointment time, potential adverse effects and other options. It should not be presented as proven to reverse ageing, improve memory or increase energy in healthy people.
The workbook also lists a course of four 500 mg appointments for £1,050. A course is not appropriate for everyone; any repeat treatments would need an individual plan and clinical authorisation.
Vitamin injections
Vitamin D injection
Vitamin D injections may be considered in certain clinical circumstances following assessment of your health and, where appropriate, your vitamin D status. The team will explain whether an injection is indicated or whether oral vitamin D is more appropriate. Frequency will be tailored to the clinical reason for treatment.
Vitamin B12 injection
Vitamin B12 injections may be used when a clinician identifies a relevant clinical need, such as vitamin B12 deficiency. Midland Health already offers intramuscular hydroxocobalamin; the clinical team can advise whether testing or ongoing treatment is needed. Injections should not be advertised as a general energy boost for people without a deficiency.
Need an iron infusion instead?
IV iron is a separate treatment pathway for people with identified iron deficiency or iron deficiency anaemia. It requires a GP-led assessment and relevant blood results, and is not interchangeable with IV vitamin therapy. If iron deficiency is suspected, please see our dedicated Private IV Iron Infusion in Birmingham page for eligibility, treatment information and bookings.
Initial nurse consultation — attend in person or by video to discuss your concerns, health and treatment expectations. We review symptoms, medicines, supplements, allergies, relevant conditions and any previous infusion reactions.
Tests and clinical review — blood tests may be requested where indicated. If a treatment is being considered, its ingredients, uncertainties, limitations, likely risks and alternatives are discussed.
Treatment decision and ordering — if clinically appropriate, the chosen preparation is authorised and ordered for the named patient; not all enquiries will lead to an infusion or injection.
Separate treatment appointment — return to the Edgbaston clinic for administration by an appropriately trained clinician or supervised healthcare team member following the agreed protocol. You may be monitored during and after treatment.
Aftercare and follow-up — you receive personalised advice and, where appropriate, follow-up assessment or blood testing. There is no standard repeat schedule suitable for everyone.

The planned IV nutrition service is for adults aged 18 and over. An assessment is necessary to decide whether any treatment is medically appropriate. IV nutrition is not recommended simply because someone feels tired or wishes to improve their general wellbeing without considering the underlying cause.
IV nutrition is not offered during pregnancy or breastfeeding under the supplied pathway. People with kidney disease, heart failure, fluid restrictions, liver disease or conditions affecting vitamin or mineral metabolism may be unsuitable or need further clinical assessment.
Tell our team if you are undergoing cancer treatment, have G6PD deficiency, have had an infusion reaction or allergy, or take regular medicines or supplements. If you have an active infection, fever or acute illness, please contact us before attending as an appointment may need to be postponed.
A consultation may identify that oral hydration, nutrition advice, further tests or medical assessment would be more appropriate. There is no guarantee that an infusion will offer additional benefit, particularly where vitamin and mineral levels are already adequate.
Risks and limitations of IV vitamin therapy
IV infusions involve inserting a cannula into a vein and can cause discomfort, bruising, bleeding, vein irritation, infection, dizziness or fainting. Some ingredients may also cause nausea, flushing, changes in blood pressure, or allergic reactions, which can occasionally be serious. Risks can vary by formulation and personal medical history, including the possibility of excess fluid or inappropriate vitamin/mineral dosing.
Our team will discuss formulation-specific risks, alternatives and the consent process before treatment. We will not recommend repeat infusions without clinical review. An IV drip is not a substitute for urgent care or for investigating persistent symptoms.
How to prepare for an IV appointment
Eat normally beforehand and consider a light meal or snack. Fasting is not usually necessary for the infusion, but follow any separate instructions for blood tests.
Drink water normally and continue any prescribed fluid restrictions. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours beforehand.
Wear comfortable clothing that allows access to your arm; bring your medication/supplement list and any recent relevant blood results.
Continue prescribed medicines unless your clinician advises otherwise; ask whether any supplements should be paused.
Let us know about needle anxiety, previous fainting, difficulties with cannulas, new symptoms, infection or medication changes.
During your appointment and afterwards
Infusion times vary depending on the preparation and whether slower administration is required. An individual appointment may take longer than the infusion itself to allow for checks, cannulation and observation. The team will confirm the expected time when treatment is arranged, particularly for NAD+.
Afterwards, we will remove the cannula, check how you feel and advise whether further observation is needed. If you feel well, you can usually return to light daily activities, eat normally and drink fluids as advised. Rest when needed; avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise and saunas for the rest of the day. Do not drive if you feel dizzy, faint or unwell.
Keep the dressing in place as instructed. Mild bruising or tenderness can occur. Contact Midland Health promptly if you develop increasing pain, redness, warmth, swelling, discharge, persistent nausea, a rash or another unexpected symptom. If we are closed, seek advice from NHS 111. Call 999 for difficulty breathing, swelling of the face/lips/tongue, chest pain or collapse.

FAQ
What is IV nutrition?
IV nutrition involves administering a liquid preparation, which may include vitamins and minerals, into a vein. Whether it is suitable depends on your medical history, clinical needs and the particular formulation.
Are IV vitamin drips better than taking vitamins by mouth?
Not necessarily. For generally healthy people, evidence has not established that IV vitamin drips provide superior wellbeing benefits compared with an appropriate diet, fluids or oral supplements. Your clinician will discuss suitable alternatives.
Can I get an IV vitamin drip without a consultation?
No. Under Midland Health’s proposed pathway, patients have an initial nurse consultation and any necessary clinical review before a preparation is selected, ordered and administered at a separate appointment.
Will I need blood tests before IV vitamin therapy?
Possibly. The need for blood tests depends on your health, symptoms, medicines and proposed treatment. The team will explain any relevant testing and separate charges before proceeding.
How long does an IV vitamin infusion take?
The duration varies by formulation. Some standard infusions may run for around 30–60 minutes, but you should allow additional time for preparation and monitoring. Some treatments, especially NAD+, may take longer; the team will confirm your appointment time.
Is IV nutrition safe for everyone?
No. IV infusions carry risks, and some medical conditions or medicines can make treatment unsuitable. This service is planned for adults only and does not offer IV nutrition during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Is NAD+ IV therapy proven to reverse ageing or boost energy?
There is currently insufficient robust clinical evidence to make those claims for wellness NAD+ infusions in healthy people. The team will discuss the uncertainty, formulation and potential risks before any decision.
Can I have a vitamin B12 injection in Birmingham?
Midland Health already offers vitamin B12 injections when clinically appropriate. A clinician can advise whether testing or treatment is required, including when vitamin B12 deficiency is suspected.
Can I book an IV iron infusion through this service?
Iron infusions use a separate GP-led clinical pathway and require relevant blood results. Please visit our dedicated IV iron infusion page to find out how that service works.
Can I have a vitamin B12 injection in Birmingham?
Midland Health already offers vitamin B12 injections when clinically appropriate. A clinician can advise whether testing or treatment is required, including when vitamin B12 deficiency is suspected.
How often can I have IV nutrition or vitamin injections?
There is no standard course for everyone. Any repeat treatment depends on clinical assessment, the formulation, relevant blood results and your response. Courses should never be assumed to be beneficial or automatically necessary.
